The most confortable way to paddle kneeling

FAQ

1. Why a SUP seat?

When we climb on a SUP board for the first time we do it on our knees, this way it is easier to maintain the balance since the center of gravity is lower, so we get used little by little to gain confidence until we stand up. Also when we use the paddle surf to make a long distance trip it is usual to get down on our knees for a while to change the position when we are tired.

Kneeling, therefore, is common in paddle surfing but is a very uncomfortable position for the knees and feet. The PaddleSit allows a very comfortable position for paddling on the knees. It allows us to go with the back straight avoiding the curvature of the spine that causes so much discomfort in the position used in kayaks and canoes. In addition, by allowing an auxiliary paddle with two blades to be housed in the centre, we can alternate between the two sports making a much more complete exercise.

Another advantage of the kneeling position with two blade paddles is that it offers a more powerful paddle and can allow us to advance faster and more easily in situations of current or headwind. It can bail us out if weather conditions change.

2. I have trouble kneeling, can I use it?

Our chair is very comfortable for most people, but if you have a problem kneeling you can tilt the seat almost vertically and use it as a backrest and sit the conventional way.

3. Wouldn’t it be more comfortable to sit the conventional way?

In our culture it is not usual to sit on your knees or “squat” as often happens in some cultures and we find it a little anti-intuitive. However, this is such a comfortable position that it is used in meditation. The spine is straight and perfect for paddling.

4. The nice thing about paddle surfing is to go standing, which is what it was designed for, if I want to paddle sitting down i will use a kayak, what’s the advantage then for me?

We love paddle surfing, it’s a very complete and relaxing sport. If the sea is calm and the environment is beautiful, like the one we have here in Cabo de Gata gives us an indescribable sensation, it’s like walking in silence on the water and with the Mermaids Reef in the background at dusk, there is nothing else like it. However, it can be a bit tiring if the journey is a little long, so when we designed the PaddleSit we did it thinking about complementing the paddle, not replace it with something similar to a flat kayak. Our chair is designed to alternate between the two sports increasing the possibilities.

5. Why carry two paddles? Isn’t it too bulky?

Seats have been used for paddle surfing similar to those used for kayaks, but not only are they more uncomfortable than the PaddleSit, you have to return to land to change over so we can not alternate the two sports, we have to choose one. We designed our seating model not only to be more comfortable and ergonomic for the back but also thinking about how to accommodate a second oar that is stowed in a place that is not uncomfortable at all and can be easily alternated with a little practice.

6. May I use it with waves or wind?

The PaddleSit is not designed for waves, it is designed to allow a more comfortable crossing with calm sea. If you decide to use it with waves or rough sea, keep in mind that it could come off the board and hit you. We do not guarantee its use in unfavourable sea conditions.

7. How do I attach it to the paddle surfboard?

The PaddleSit is designed so that it does not need to be attached to the board. Most paddle boards have a high grip rubber surface so the PaddleSit will not move. For this reason we do not supply fixing straps. As it is not fixed we can move it forward when we are going to paddle standing up, to place ourselves in the center of the board.

However we have designed the PaddleSit with some side holes that you can use to tie it to the board with straps if you consider it convenient. Another option is to tie it simply with a leash to the board so that in case of overturning it does not separate from it.

8. Is it difficult to use the PaddleSit?

When sitting, either kneeling or in the conventional way the center of gravity is lower and it is easy to maintain balance. In any case it is much easier than standing and when you are a beginner or even if you can not get up you can still enjoy your board.

9. What if I fall into the water?

The PaddleSit floats, so you’re not gonna lose it easily.
If you are just starting out, we advise you to use a large board, with the PaddleSit it is easy to maintain your balance. You can attach the chair to the board with a leash so that in case of tipping it does not separate from it or attach it completely with straps.

10. May I use PaddleSit for yoga?

One of the meditation positions in yoga is sitting on your knees in the posture of the hero or Virasana. In some cases meditation benches are used to improve comfort. Our chair still improves the posture by allowing the adjustment in inclination and height of the chair and having a support for the entire extension of the legs, from the knee to the ankle.
A session of meditation at sea, with the rumor of the waves, watching the sunset, sitting comfortably on the PaddleSit, is an overwhelming experience.

11. I have a paddle surf rental company, how can I benefit from offering my customers the PaddleSit?

The PaddleSit will allow everyone to enjoy paddle surfing from the beginning and help them to get used to the environment. More possibilities to attract a wider range of customers.

12. What are the measurements and weight?

The measurements when assembled are 50 cm (width) x 60 cm (length) x 24 cm (height) and when disassembled they are about 12 cm high.
Weight: 5,5 kg
